Description of PADI Open Water Course

When you have completed the PADI Open Water Course, you will receive a certification that you can use in various locations around the world, this is valid for life. If you have an appetite for excitement and adventure, odds are you can become an avid PADI scuba diver. You will also want to keep in mind the following requirements:

  • Students younger than 15 years, who successfully complete the course, qualify for the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification, which they may upgrade to PADI Open Water Diver certification upon reaching 15.
  • Children going for their ocean dives (Fujairah): may go unattended, however, parents/guardians are to sign Youth Diving: Responsibility & Risks Acknowledgements form upon signing up for the course. Before completing the PADI Open Water Course, your instructor will have you demonstrate basic water skills by having you.
  • Swim 200 meters/yards (or 300 meters/yards in mask, fins, and snorkel). You may use any swimming stroke you want.
  • Float and tread water for 10 minutes, again using any methods that you like.

The course consists of 5 Knowledge Development Sessions, 5 Confined Water sessions conducted in our on-site swimming pool, and lastly, 4 Open Water dives. Typically our students complete two beach dives, followed by two boat dives from Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort in Fujairah.

We can combine some of the pool and theory sessions to break the day up. The sessions (theory and pool) are scheduled into sections. The course can also be concentrated into 4 days or spread out over a period of months or weeks, it is entirely up to you. This is subject to weather conditions and availability.

The above does not have to run consecutively, as mentioned, it can be done over weeks or months, depending on availability and days you are available, and the student’s effort. If you decided to do the course you would need to come and collect the materials required for the knowledge reviews before attending the theory sessions.

You need to read the manual, answer the knowledge review sections and watch the DVD at home before attending the theory sessions.

You must complete the course within one year from signing up, an administration fee is charged if an extension is requested.

 Minimum Age Requirement: 10 years

No refunds are given for the non-completion of courses.

 Sample schedule with Theory:

Mondays & Wednesdays: Theory 1-3 Pool 1-3

Tuesdays, Thursdays & Sundays: Theory 4-5 & Final Exam Pool 4-5

Fridays & Saturdays: All training

Open Water dives: Daily
